What's it all about?
With over 32 million vehicles on the road, the demand for highly skilled mechanics to repair, maintain and keep them roadworthy will always be present. If you are technically minded this could be just the job for you. You will be diagnosing and locating vehicle faults, servicing, tuning, repairing and replacing components. You are most likely to carry out this work in a workshop, independent garage or even a large service department of a manufacturers' dealership and will be working mainly on cars and light vehicles.
What does the training involve?
The best foundation for a career as a mechanic is through an apprenticeship. You will learn, train and earn at the same time with much of your practical experience coming from supervised work in the garage itself. You will attend our Motorvate Technical College on day release to obtain your underpinning knowledge.
Like all NVQ's, the qualification is competence based. This means that it is linked to your ability to perform a range of tasks connected with your work. You will plan a programme of development and assessment with an assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove your competence and knowledge. You will attend college on day release.

Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship, Technical Certificate, Key Skills in Application of Number and Communication.
