What's it all about?
As a motorcycle technician you will maintain, examine and repair motorcycles. Your main tasks will include:
- Carrying out routine checks
- Repairing / replacing faulty motorcycle components
- Modifying motorcycles in a way that meets customers' requirements
- Using testing equipment to inspect motorcycles
Some motorcycle technicians carry out MOT tests as a part of their job. To do this, you have to be a qualified MOT Tester.
What does the training involve?
The best foundation for a career as a motorcycle technician is through an apprenticeship. You will learn, train and earn at the same time with much of your practical experience coming from supervised work in the garage itself.
Like all NVQ's, the qualification is competence based. This means that it is linked to your ability to perform a range of tasks connected with your work. You will plan a programme of development and assessment with an assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove your competence and knowledge. You will attend college on day release.
