Foundation Learning
for Young People

If you are aged 16 – 19 and not in school, college or training then our new Foundation Learning Programme could help with these decisions. If you are facing certain issues in your life that you feel might hold you back, then we will help move you forward onto the right path.

What is the aim of the course?

  • To Help you build confidence and achieve your goals
  • To Help you with your functional skills
  • To Give you training in certain skill areas
  • To Find you work experience
  • To Help you move into an apprenticeship, employment or further education.

What qualifications will I achieve?

If you are a little unsure what it is you wish to do as a career then the programme will allow you to gain work tasters and work towards an Edexcel Entry 3 Qualification in:

  • Joinery
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Motor Vehicle
  • Engineering
  • Gardening
  • ICT
  • Health and Safety
  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Managing Money
  • Interview Skills
  • Producing a Product

..OR if you have always wanted to be a Mechanic then our IMI Entry 3 Motor Vehicle Course is ideal for YOU!

The course is set at three levels - Award, Certificate and Diploma, so it's really down to you how far you want to go!

What happens when I join?

  • When we first meet you, you will complete an initial assessment where we will discuss what you want to achieve, identify your needs and agree on an individual learning plan.
  • You will have help in developing your motivation, confidence, personal and social skills. This may include taking part in out of centre activities like tractor driving, sport and team building. Issues such as bullying, taking responsibility, antisocial behaviour are also considered.
  • You will get support and tuition with functional skills such as Literacy and Numeracy
  • You will learn what qualities are needed to be successful in the work place such as timekeeping, attendance and following instructions. You will also have help in applying for jobs and you may get the chance to gain hands on experience of employment work placements.
  • You will be supported by experienced staff throughout the programme.

How long does it last?

There is no fixed length programme. It is based on your needs and you can stay on the scheme until you are ready to move forward. However most people stay on the scheme for approximately 6 months.

How much does it cost me?

The programme doesn't cost you anything! In fact you may even get paid Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) depending on circumstances.
