Foundation Learning
for Young People

If you are aged 16 – 19 and not in school, college or training then our new Foundation Learning Programmes could help put  you on the right path.  Please see below for the courses that we offer.

What are the aims of all our courses?

  • To Help you build confidence and achieve your goals
  • To Help you with your functional skills
  • To Give you training in certain skill areas
  • To Help you move into an apprenticeship, employment or further education.

What happens when I join?

  • Everyone who starts at Martec training will begin with a 6 week week initial assessment.  This allows us to discuss what you want to achieve, identify your needs and agree on an individual learning plan.
  • You will acheive a recognised qualification during this period called the City & Guilds Award in Employability and Personal Development, please click here to view the full qualification content.
  • You will have help in developing your motivation, confidence, personal and social skills. This may include taking part in out of centre activities and team building. Issues such as bullying, taking responsibility, antisocial behaviour are also considered.
  • You will get support and tuition with functional skills such as Literacy and Numeracy
  • You will learn what qualities are needed to be successful in the work place and will also have help in applying for jobs. You may get the chance to gain hands on experience of employment work placements.
  • You will be supported by experienced staff throughout the programme.

After the 6 week initial assessment period you will have the opportunity to progress onto one of the following courses -

Unsure of what you wish to do as a career?

Then this Foundation Learning programme will allow you to gain work tasters and work towards an Edexcel Entry Level BTEC Certificate in Workskills.

This course has been designed to help you gain the knowledge, understanding and skills you need to enter employment whilst gaining a nationally-recognised qualification.

If you are aged 16 - 19, prefer a more 'hands on' way of learning and are interested in motor vehicle mechanics then the IMI Motor Vehicle Courses that we offer are ideal for YOU!

The courses are set at three levels, click on the course titles below to view detailed information on course content (please note that the Entry level courses are suited to learners who may need some support with basic skills, the Level 1 course is for those with Level 1 Literacy & Numeracy) -

Maybe see yourself in a receptionist or office assistant role?  Then our new City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Business and Administration could be just for you!

Based at Martec training 2 days a week, you will get the opportunity to experience a real life working environment in our new business suite, whilst working towards a recognised qualification. Click here to view more information.

How much does it cost me?

The programme doesn't cost you anything!

EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) has now been stopped unfortunately, however, there is new financial help called bursaries which may be available if you are starting or carrying on with a course with Martec this year.  Please click here to view further information on this.
