Heavy vehicle service technicians service and repair large vehicles such as lorries, trucks and coaches.
The duties of a heavy vehicle service technician may include: Servicing vehicles – carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturer's guidelines and repairing and replacing faulty parts and components. Some tasks may be physically demanding although you will use lifting equipment to move heavy parts
What does the training involve?
The best foundation for a career as a Heavy Vehicle Technician is through an apprenticeship. You will learn and earn at the same time with much of your practical experience coming from supervised work in the garage itself. You will attend technical college on day release to obtain your underpinning knowledge.
What will I achieve?
An IMI Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
- consisting of a Vocational Qualification, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills. You can then progress onto an Advanced Level Apprenticeship.
