A Vehicle Parts Operations apprenticeship usually lasts 12-18 months.

You will gain an Institute of Motor Industry Level 2 Apprenticeship in Vehicle Parts Operations
– consisting of a Vocational Qualification, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills. You can then potentially progress onto an Advanced Level Apprenticeship.

An Apprenticeship in Vehicle Parts Operations is designed to give you a thorough grounding in all the different aspects of the industry. Duties may include providing goods from stock on request, processing orders for parts, dealing with deliveries, security of the parts department, processing returned goods and materials and providing information and advice to customers.

As an apprentice you will earn whilst you learn and much of your practical experience will come from supervised work during placement. Depending on your Maths, English and ICT grades, you may be required to attend Martec on day release to complete Functional Skills qualifications in these subjects.

Like all vocational training, the qualification is competence based. This means that it is linked to your ability to perform a range of tasks connected with your work. You will plan a programme of development and assessment with an assessor and your employer and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove your competence and knowledge.

You will be paid the nationally recognised apprenticeship wage. See here for more information:

There is no cost to you to attend this course.

“When it came to thinking about leaving school I knew I didn’t want to go onto standard further education in a college. I really wanted to earn some money but had very little experience and knew it would be difficult to find a job where I could also learn a trade. I heard about Martec from school and decided to go and find out more. What really appealed to me is that I would earn money whilst learning a skill and earn a qualification. My placement was local to home and also to Martec which was a real advantage.”Josh Phillips
