Opening Hours: Monday –Thursday 8.30am – 4pm, Friday closed for cleaning
Here at Martec we are proud that we have been able to safely remain open during Covid 19 to support a small number of our students with additional needs. During this time students and tutors safety has been our priority.
From the 15th June additional students have been invited back into centre to complete their qualifications. In June and July our focus is to complete Study Programme student’s qualifications. A small number of Apprentices will also be invited into centre during this time.
If you are required to attend centre your tutor will have been in touch to discuss you returning to complete your qualification. However, if you are not feeling well or members of your household are showing COVID-19 symptoms, please do not attend even if you have asked to.
Students must not attend Martec unless specifically invited to do so, and must only attend at those times specified.
All other students: if you have not been invited in to centre by your tutor please remain at home and continue with your online and distance learning. Please ensure you have regular contact with your tutors, assessors and support staff. It is important you continue to engage with learning to ensure you successfully complete your course.
My tutor has asked me to come into centre to complete some work, what safety measures do you have in place?
Our building has been adapted to adhere with social distancing. The floor is marked showing where you can stand when entering reception. Screens are in place around the building to protect you and the tutors. Visors/masks are available at reception, please feel free to wear your own. Numerous hand sanitising stations have been installed. There are only a small number of students in centre at any time allowing social distancing to take place in the classroom. We are currently operating in bubbles to minimise the risk of any potential spread. Catering facilities onsite have been suspended, including the vending machine. Please bring a packed lunch with you. Students are asked not to leave site at break times.
Over the summer we will be putting in place additional systems and procedures to allow us to have more students on site in September. If you are feeling anxious about attending centre please make your tutor aware or speak to our Welfare Officers : Kath Shaw (Apprenticeships) Lynda Hassall (Study Programme).
I am an Apprentice and my technical classes in centre stopped during lock down. When will they be restarting?
Your technical classes are currently being delivered by zoom sessions with your tutor. Please contact your tutor if you have any problems with attending these. A small number of students have already been asked to start attending centre. We anticipate from August we will do a phased return for Apprentices, with all being back in centre by September. You will be informed by phone and/or letter when you need to attend, your employer will also be notified.
I am an Apprentice but I have been furloughed, I don’t want to fall behind with my qualification, what should I do?
If you have been furloughed you should still be continuing with your qualification. Your assessor will be in touch via phone to do reviews and technical classes will be held via zoom. Your attendance at these sessions will be monitored. Use this opportunity to increase your Off The Job Hours, this can be done by watching You Tube videos (take a look at Martec’s You Tube channel), reading articles online and manuals. If you feel you need additional support during this time please contact your tutor.
I would like to apply to join Martec in September, how do I do this?
To apply please call 01782 717272 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org, you can also apply via our website.
Interviews are being held over the phone and where possible you will be invited in for a taster session.
I am coming back in September to do my Level 2, how will things be different?
New systems and safety procedures will be in place to ensure everybody is kept as safe as possible. This will involve a one way system, staggered start time and breaks, additional PPE (optional but available for everybody), changes to the way you order, collect and pay for food from the canteen and much more. On your first day back we will explain everything clearly to you so you are able to follow any new systems.
I have completed my Level 3 Study Programme with Martec and unsure of what to do next.
If you have come to the end of your qualifications with Martec and are unsure what to do next please contact our welfare team who will be able to discuss your options with you and advise you on your next steps. We can help you apply for additional courses, ensure your CV is up to date, job search and much more. Please call 01782 717272.
