Martec Training is revolutionising its motor vehicle courses through the integration of Assisted Reality (AR) headsets; significantly enhancing the learning experience for students with varying levels of Special Educational Needs (SEN).

The training provider, based in Newcastle Under Lyme, specialise in Apprenticeships and Vocational Courses in Staffordshire that lead to a recognised qualification.

The training provider have recently participated in a trial pioneered by Autotech Connect, The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), and RealWear which saw over 30 AR headsets distributed to colleges and training providers nationwide.

Since using the RealWear headsets, Martec Training has reported a significantly enhanced learning experience for teachers and students alike.

The training provider will be holding a dedicated Open Event in October and are anticipating considerable interest in their new AR headsets.

The Open Event will be held on Tuesday 22nd October between 3.00pm and 6.30pm and will provide an overview of the Apprenticeships and study programmes available to the 2025 intake. Apprenticeships and study programmes at Martec Training specialise in the automotive, construction, catering and hospitality sectors.

The AR headsets that the team at Martec Training have trialled have dramatically improved their students’ ability to recall what they have learned, by allowing them to record and playback sessions at their own pace, while the hands-free technology has enabled them to use both hands while applying theoretical knowledge practically, enhancing engagement and retention.

“We have been delighted with the feedback from our teaching staff on how the headsets are being implemented by teachers and students alike to aid learning and support in the retention of information,” said Simon Kitson, Operations Manager at Martec Training and a former vehicle technician who recognises the benefits of hands-free technology in teaching future technicians.

“The use of the headsets was also noted during a recent Ofsted visit, particularly how it is a great aid for supporting students with learning difficulties, allowing them to record the session and access the information later to go over it at their own pace.”
